Exalted Simplicity

January 23, 2018 (023/365)

Blue Monday

January 15, 2018 (015/365)

"Feeling a little blue in January is normal." ~ Marilu Henner

For the past few years, I have heard the third Monday of January referred to as "Blue Monday." Apparently, researches have devised a formula accounting for variables such as weather, post-holiday debt, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Year’s resolutions, low motivation levels, and feeling the need for change and action to determine that today is one of the hardest days of the year.

What would cheer you up on this Blue Monday? A vacation, good book, a walk in the freshly fallen snow? This evening, perhaps a boat drink would help -- this is juniper after all. Now all we need is tonic and lime!

Timing

August 20, 2017 (232/365)

"Blue thou art, intensely blue;
Flower, whence came thy dazzling hue?"
~ James Montgomery

One of the best things about our morning walks is discovering new things,
like the beautiful Commelina communis -- Asiatic dayflower.
This tiny blue beauty blooms for just one day. Again, timing is everything!

out-values all the utilities of the world."

they are those who discover and treasure the beauty and sweetness
of the everyday moments." ~  Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Forget Me Not

April Surprises

April 2, 2016 (093/366)

"Under the giving snow blossoms a daring spring." ~ Terri Guillemets

I think Mother Nature is a day late with her April Fool's joke. Yesterday, we discovered these tiny blue flowers in the yard (striped squill). Today, they were a bit harder to find!

Bare Branches

January 27, 2016 (027/366)

"Bare branches of each tree
on this chilly January morn
look so cold, so forlorn.
Darkened skies dip ever low
left from yesterday's dusting of snow."
-  Nelda Hartmann, January Morn
